History Departments

Welcome to History Department. The Faculty in the Department of History combines a passion for innovative teaching with cutting-edge research. It has an expertise in a wide range of specializations: the history of ancient and early medieval India, with a special focus on archaeology, heritage, society, politics, religion, texts, and ideas; the history of medieval and early modern India with an emphasis on states, empires, warfare, and environment; the history of modern India and the Indian Ocean with a focus on political violence, space, environment, and intellectual history; contemporary history and international history of modern South Asia; and global history.

Members of the faculty are renowned as thinkers and contributors to the discipline of History and as specialists in their respective domains of research. This is evident in the large number of invitations received to give key note addresses in conferences, participate in international and national conferences and workshops. The History Department runs one of the most rigorous and prestigious MPhil programmes in the world.
